Ajax’ story

By August 14, 2014 February 5th, 2018 Histories

At the foot of Harwood Ave. S. you will find Veterans Point Gardens, dedicated to HMS Ajax, the Royal Navy ship after which the Town was named. Before the Second World War, the territory in which Ajax is situated was a rural part of the township of Pickering. The town itself was first established in 1941 when a Defence Industries Limited (D.I.L.) shell plant was constructed and a townsite grew around the plant.

Durham Waterfront Trail

The Durham Waterfront Trail Map Your City pilot is a collaboration between Map Your City, Durham Region and the Waterfront Regeneration Trust.

Durham Waterfront Trail showcases the Durham Region section of the Waterfront Trail, including access points, amenities and the many things to see and do along the trail and in Durham’s beautiful waterfront communities. The map is available online and in a mobile app.

The best part? The map is interactive. You can add your own favorite places, share your stories and read and comment on other trail users’ experiences. You can even share from MYC to your Facebook friends and Twitter followers.

Whether you’re out for a day of leisurely family cycling, exploring diverse wetlands and wildlife, savouring a local delicacy at a waterfront café or enjoying free live music on a summer evening, there is so much to experience along Durham’s waterfront trail. We invite you to have fun and make Map Your City part of your trail experience!
