MYC as Canada’s mobile trail companion

By December 18, 2015 January 9th, 2018 News

People living in and visiting the Durham region in Ontario, Canada, will be the first to use the Map Your City mobile app when exploring their trails. As the Durham Trail Coordinating Committee recently endorsed the start of the Map Your City project in collaboration with the Waterfront Regeneration Trust and the Durham regional municipality, we are now able to move forward.

Moving forward

Map Your City delivers the technology to engage in new ways with current trail users, and very soon people living in and visiting the Durham region can try it out themselves! Next couple of weeks we will be taking the first steps to set up the project together with the input of the 5 southern Lake Ontario bordering Durham municipalities.

In case you are wondering

{Trail} – \ˈtrāl\ – noun – {Synonyms} footpath, path, pathway, trace, track

Merriam Webster’s Dictionary:
a : a trace or mark left by something that has passed or been drawn along : scent, track
b : (1) a track made by passage especially through a wilderness (2) : a marked or established path or route especially through a forest or mountainous region
c : a course followed or to be followed – hit the campaign trail

A trail is usually a path, track or unpaved lane or road, though the term is also applied, in North America, to routes along rivers, and sometimes to highways. In the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland path or footpath is the preferred term for a walking trail. Some trails are single use and can only be used for walking, cycling, horse riding, snow shoeing, cross-country skiing, etc., others, as in the case of a bridleway in the UK, are multi-use, and can be used by walkers, cyclists and equestrians.  There are also unpaved trails used by dirt bikes and other off road vehicles. In some places, like the Alps, trails are used for moving cattle and other livestock (see transhumance). In the US historically, the term was used for a route into or through wild territory used by emigrants (e.g. the Oregon Trail).

We designed Map Your City to help you to connect & engage, tell your stories and build strong communities.
